Mobile Device Security

We find ourselves scrolling mindlessly through our phones, clicking ads, meeting new people, and making transactions. I have personally developed a mindset that, I’m safe, alone, and protected. This could be far from the truth. More than 60% of online fraud happens on a mobile device. It is your task to learn the essentials of securing your mobile device to safeguard your personal sensitive information. Treat your mobile device security with the same importance as your computer – it's a valuable asset containing personal and financial information.

Quick Tips!

Lock Screen Security: Use strong authentication methods to secure your lock screen. Avoid easily guessable patterns or PINs; use complex passwords or biometric options for better security. ie. fingerprint or face scan.

Regular Software Updates: Keep your device and apps up to date to patch vulnerabilities. Enable automatic updates to ensure you're protected against the latest security threats. You’d be shocked at how effective this is.

Avoiding Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks: Understand the risks of connecting to unsecured Wi-Fi networks. When going to a hotel or coffee shop please be aware you may be opening yourself up to attackers when joining the free Wi-Fi. Use Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) when connecting to public Wi-Fi to encrypt your data and enhance security.

Mobile Antivirus and Security Apps: Install reputable antivirus and security apps for added protection. Regularly scan your device for malware and phishing threats using security apps. I use MalwareBytes.

Lost or Stolen Device Protocols: Set up remote tracking and wiping features to secure your device if lost. Always report a lost or stolen device promptly to the authorities and your service provider.
